About us

The Ports Authority

A statutory body of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government, charged with the management of the nation's seaports and the maritime affairs that go with them.

Our mandate

Why the Authority exists

The Ports Authority of the Turks and Caicos Islands (PATCI) was established in 2008 as a government statutory body, with responsibility for managing the country's seaports and for related maritime matters. The powers and duties that flow from that role are set out in Section 5 of the Ports Authority Ordinance.

The Authority reports through the Ministry of Immigration and Border Services. Its work is funded by the tariffs, dues and charges levied on the traffic it handles, and the intention is that it should stand on its own feet financially while remaining a public service answerable to the people of these islands.

Day to day, that means berthing and clearing vessels, maintaining quays and navigation aids, enforcing security and safety standards, and planning the port infrastructure the islands will need a decade from now.
